Turn-Out at Tanglewood Grows
By Bryan Harrison, Association News Network, Inc.

Crowds at the Central Coast Claims Association monthly luncheon meetings continue to grow. The March meeting, featuring guest speaker Karen Nicely, of the California State Contractors License Board, drew more than 80 property and casualty claims industry professionals and service providers.

Ms. Nicely gave an overview of some of the problems faced with unlicensed or under-licensed contractors working in the field.
“Workers’ Comp. issues are a big problem,” she stated. Workers’ Comp. coverage is “hugely under-reported,” she explained.

“We’re all in this together,” she said, “ So we need your help, too.”
Lack of communication with your contractor is one of the biggest problems, investigators have found. Asking questions from the start is a good way to determine whether your prospective contractor has all the bases covered.

“Any work - material and labor, over $500 must be done by a licensed contractor,” she said.

Ms. Nicely shared brochures, and suggested involvement through the CSLB site: www.CSLB.ca.gov.
